Bessie Annette Bond, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. She was 90 years old.
Born on August 11, 1935, Bessie graduated from Commercial High School and dedicated her professional life as a School Assistant at Savannah Christian Preparatory School, where she made a significant impact on both students and staff alike.
Bessie was a remarkable woman known for her warmth, generosity, and undeniable spirit. She was a longtime member of Bull Street Baptist Church, later attended Southside Baptist Church and had been a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church for the last several years. She had a passion for cooking, and her homemade ice cream was a treat for family gatherings. Her love for her family and compassion for others touched the lives of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Bessie is survived by her devoted son, Christopher Mark Bond, and his wife Marcia; her loving daughter, Sandra Diane Bond; and her cherished daughter-in-law, Melissa Rhodes Bond. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Stanley Israel “Sonny” Bond, IV, Christopher Mark Bond, Jr. (Megan), Caroline Bond Johnson (Landon), Ashley Bond Enoch (Ed), and Sarah Gwendolyn Bond, as well as her eight adored great-grandchildren. She is reunited in peace with her husband of 68 years, Stanley Israel Bond, Jr. and her sons, Stanley Israel Bond, III, and William Arthur Bond, who preceded her in death.
A visitation will be held at the Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel in Savannah, Georgia, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm. She will be laid to rest at Greenwich Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that remembrances be made to Higher Ground Baptist Church, located at 9120 Whitefield Avenue, Savannah, GA 31406.
